Welcome to the first Great Hump Day Quiz of the year! All newcomers are most welcomeCheck out the rules, pop your answers in a post, and I’ll add you to the Scoreboard.
Where do the questions come from?
I found a mysterious old box of trivial pursuit, with even more trivial pursuits stuffed inside. It is a treasure trove of quiz questions, and all of them really old. Perfect fodder for a Hump Day special.
Vesuvius (I’ve been up it… the coach trip up the the first part is truly terrifying!)
The Klondike
Um… Middle East somewhere… let’s say Iran?
The Colusseum?
Standard quiz question - Canada!
💗 Entertainment
Clint Eastwood in the only actor I can name who I know was in Rawhide so let’s assume he played Rowdy Yates.
“Here’s Johnny!”
Michael Caine
Is that Texas?
Blockbusters with Bob Holness- watched after school everyday when I was a kid.
💛 History
Cutlass?
Treaty of Versaille
Um… it’s in Paris… soldiers who died in a War… not sure which. Predates WW1
“In sixteen hundred and sixty six, London burnt like rotten sticks…”
The Great Fire of London… sure hotter events did happen though.
💩 Art and Literature
Jules Verne
Mutiny on the Bounty… so ship was The Bounty?
Atlas
💚 Science and Nature
Permafrost
David Attenborough?
Mosquitos
🧡 Sprot and Leisure
15 (two 5s a 3 and a 2 at start)
Can’t even think of any sporting venues opened around then
Blue maybe? (Gold in centre?)
Hmm, odd question… there are 4 riders on each team but each rider normally has a different horse per 7 minute chukka and there are between 4 and 6 chukkas per match and normally each rider would have a couple of spare horses too in case of any injuries so um, somewhere between 4 in very low key match and 32ish in a full polo match horses per team. Don’t know if there’s a maximum number of horses per team so possibly more?
Um, body?
…I feel I’m going to be disputing the card’s answer to 4 whatever it says!
Not sure whether I’m ashamed or proud that by far my best Sport round is when the questions are on backgammon, archery, polo and wine! Should have got Wimbledon, did consider it but thought it was older. Still dispute 4 horses per Polo team though… no way the same horse would be used for all chukkas in a proper match!
Ooh@WillCstop messin’ about! Congrats Peitho maybe as its Panto season if you give it a rub you’ll be granted 3 wishes.
Interesting about the coconut water. It was published in The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Vol18, Iss1, Jan 2000, Pg108-111 “We report the successful use of coconut water as a short-term intravenous hydration fluid for a Solomon Island patient, a laboratory analysis of the local coconuts, and a review of previously documented intravenous coconut use.”
…thought you might! He was the master of polari, pig latin and double entendres, and back then when I originally watched the carry ons, it all went over my head! I watched Fantabulosa! about Kenneth Williams over Christmas, its still on BBC iplayer if anyone hasn’t seen it, I found it enjoyable, very interesting and poignant.
Welcome to the Saturday Night Movie Quiz! Please enjoy this copy and pasted intro. All newcomers are most welcomeCheck out the rules, pop your answers in a post, and I’ll add you to the Scoreboard.
These questions are not from the regular Trivial Pursuit stash either, but from a movie quiz I found in the Boxing Day bargain bin at the supermarket.
