Uhm yea, because porn stars need to get paid. They’re people who have lives they need money in.

Again yes. Because porn stars need money, too. You wouldn’t want to work for free, neither do they.

:rofl: I love when people get all pissy that they can’t get photos etc from people anymore.

OnlyFans and other similar sites has been great for women who now make money for doing what I would’ve given away in the past.

The amount of people that I’ve sent sexy photos to…

Like… porn is a luxury goods. So… if you want it, pay for it.

In the past as well movies that were made for TV or whatever, paid the actors a fortune. So it’s not that porn was free even then, it was just paid for in a different way. These days the actors get like an hourly rate or a lump sum that’s much smaller than 30 years ago.

But yeah, like with any goods, you have to pay for it. Don’t know why that’s a problem. :upside_down_face:

I’m old, so my first porn views were mid-1980s VHS tapes…back when mom & pop video rental stores would have a back room with the adult titles. I don’t remember the name of my first full length movie but I’ve seen all the classics since. ‘Debbie Does Dallas’, ‘Behind the green door’, etc. Traci Lords was in many films of that era, long before that scandal broke. I was in Denver in the early to mid 1980s and the Bluebird theater would show porn movies…it’s a historical theater now used as a concert hall. I still prefer 1970s & 80s with some 1990s porn added in. Marie Forsa is still one of my favorites.

As the rules state , I did not know what sex was before I turned 18 ! I have no idea what the first porn I watched was called , or what it was about . First was at a sleezy theater just for porn about 79’ . Was a poorly done filthy , terrible acting film . Then came VHS and cable , open the flood gates . It is amazing to me how they can still make such garbage porn . The hardest part now is shoveling through the bad to find the good . In the beginning I wish I could have found anything as good as my home made porn .

@Nvravrg69 … I remember “Debbie does Dallas” so well. My first proper porn movie was the classic " Deep throat " , with Linda Lovelace.
Ground breaking then , but would hardly cause a ripple today.

I forgot about ‘Deep Throat’ still have that one and ‘Green Door’ (my OH’s all-time fav), ‘Candy Stripers’ on VHS…need to convert them to digital disc somehow as they are not available anymore.

Yes that’s a good point (sorry for my narrow minded reply), and with the rise of things like only fans and everyone flocking to earn a little extra on the side it’s making it harder for the porn stars to generate their main income with so much more competition :face_with_spiral_eyes:

@Amanda87 - I digress in my scolding of OnlyFans. I get that people need money and there is a big business in it. Getting paid for work being done is a no-brainer.

However, I would like to know who pays for this? Is it done through sponsorships? When I think of sports on TV, I don’t pay to watch it. If you go to the game, sure. But if you want to watch on TV, it’s free, obviously. With all the ads and the sponsors, there is a reciprocation around getting paid and the “agent” or “team” getting paid through advertising.

One Forbes article said the porn industry is worth $4 Billion in the USA alone. In contrast, sports is about $83 Billion or 5% of the value. So maybe I answered my own question. I gather this comes out of private pockets…?

My son plays High School basketball with many colleges looking at him already as he is a junior and 6’4". I am paying through the ass to get him from place to place and have low hopes of him making it big. I’m giving away my son’s talent for him to be noticed in hopes of a payback one day (which isn’t likely). So has the porn industry reversed the old adage that the “milk is free so why buy the cow”? In other words, if porn is free why pay for it? Is that why there is so much 2014-2020 porn that is constantly regurgitated?

And one more thing… and this is about your business which you can talk about or not, why do people spend the money? Is it because it is “live”, real, real time, or just different? Are they looking for a relationship? Do they feel a connection with you and live vicariously through you looking for more than satisfaction? Just curious as I have never spent a dime on it and wonder if I am missing something…

As I mentioned before, I pay for porn.
Not cams/live stuff.
I like that I have one place to go to with a wide range of genres. No ads, spammy links etc and I get full length HD content without laggy streaming and can download also.
I also appreciate the actors do this for a job.

Perhaps if more people were prepared to put their hand in their pocket and pay for something that gives them pleasure or excitement the content will be even better?

I’m pretty sure the first porn film I ever watched was the voyeur 5! Watched it many times since and as recently as about a month ago!

Mine was Emmanuelle on a German channel through satellite TV in the 90’s. First time I’d ever seen lesbian stuff and I’d never been so turned on ever.

Oh, thanks for an actually thoughtful response! It’s very refreshing  (I’m not being sarcastic, I actually mean it haha, it’s just hard with text communication sometimes so want to emphasise that)

With athletes as far as I understand it, they’ll get paid a salary? I know basically nothing about that industry since I don’t have a big interest in sport.
With porn you get paid in different ways. A big part of what’s happening right now is that with the pandemic, the whole industry changed dramatically. So before then you could get paid more for making professional movies etc since producers were holding more power. With the pandemic and rise of OnlyFans and other similar sites, the power has been put back into the hands of the performer.

In the 90s a porn producer could be a millionaire with his yacht, these days they can be just a guy down the road in a normal flat, because the money flow is completely different. That’s what people generally get upset about when they say they don’t want to pay for porn. It’s always been paid for, just in different ways. So you’d see it on TV or rent a VHS, it would still be paid for somewhere along the line. TV channels would buy rights etc, and there was a money flow and at the bottom of that the performer would be paid. Back then the recording of a movie could pay the performer thousands of dollars (for a day or two of recording), this isn’t the case now. I’m going to be doing some recordings in a professional studio in February and I’ll be paid £50 per hour lol. This is the U.K. going rate, more of course if you’re a famous performer.

So, these days when you pay for porn, be it on OnlyFans, live cam etc you’re paying the performer directly. So even if it feels more expensive for you, what you’re not paying for is some dude sitting on his luxury yacht

Every site takes a cut of what we earn, though. OnlyFans takes 20%, a cam site takes around 50%. I view it as setting up a shop in a mall where there’s security and an infrastructure in place already. I get very well protected servers and a large ‘footfall’ to my shows. Then these viewers might over time convert to paying me directly in the sense of a ‘patron’. It’s actually really interesting and something I think will be researched very soon, in how relationships happen between a performer and a few select viewers. I’ve talked to my viewers about this too, and we don’t know what to call the relationship we have. It’s like a friendship, but not friendship… it’s hard to put a finger on.

And that is essentially what people pay for. Kind of. Every single person who spends money on me, do it because they want to spend it on me. There is plenty of free porn out there if they just want a tug XD but they want to have that with me specifically.
Basically I have what I think of as ‘silent wankers’. They never interact with me, they just pay for access to my OnlyFans profile or they watch my shows and never talk (or tip) me. They don’t want too much of a personal connection, but they still want me.

Then I have several tiers of fans after that. Some spend just a few cents each time, they might not have much money, but they want to show they appreciate my hard (lol) work. They come back every time I’m live and spend a few cents. Over time I recognise them and they might or might not spend more. Some of them chit chat, some don’t.

Some spend more, maybe a tenner or so each time I’m live. They might also sign up to my OnlyFans for even more of a personal touch.

These all add up and become my biggest source of income.

Then I have my biggest fans. These fans will spend thousands of dollars on me, but it’s more sporadic. so they’ll kind of appear intermittently and ‘make up for’ when they were gone. Some of these want to chitchat, some don’t lol

I ask my viewers why they come to me. So far I’ve been told they love my sense of humour, that it can be very sensual without it being super hardcore all the time, that it’s playful, that I enjoy my job, that they feel like it’s a safe space where they can express their sexual desires, that I’m inventive and make new content all the time, that I’m kind to them, that they can tell me anything.

The viewers who pay me and appreciate me the most are of course always hopeful I’ll want a relationship but they know I won’t do that in reality. It’s a tongue in cheek thing, where they’ll tell me often they’d love it, but they know it won’t materialise. The people who never pay me think I will meet them to fuck.

I think essentially people tap in to the age old thing of being a ‘patron of the arts’. Artist throughout the ages have usually had to have sponsors and patrons to afford to live, and I very much see my fans like this. They enjoy what I create, and this allows me to continue. They want to show their appreciation and so they tip me. So I basically try to create a space where I’m open to receiving, I think that’s why I could make a living off of my content within just a few months.
Sometimes they honestly touch my heart because they’ll choose to spend money on me even if they don’t have much money themselves. So I try to reciprocate in the ways I can, to show I appreciate them.

This is a very long reply, I hope it makes some sense lol

Not necessarily  I think the amount of money in total spent on porn content is probably quite stable, but now people pay the people they want to pay, rather than big production companies. The big names will always get a large chunk! and you can also sign up to their OnlyFans, too

Thanks to @Amanda87 for that detailed summary! I’m interested in how the dynamic of the more personal nature of onlyfans affects the level of okness a partner might have about accessing that type of porn content.

On topic, not porn as in R18 but still very close (pay for TV edit), my first real porn was Hell Whores and High Heels. Very stylised, very dirty, and pretty kinky for a first movie.
