CHECK YOUR BALLS

Alice, thanks for bumping this, I had a scare a few years ago.

Fortunately I was OK but as I was advised at the time

Brilliant posting thank you! I check my OH's regularly but nice to read a post now and again to refresh what you know.

I like this thread, congratulations Alice and others for being in the clear :)

I was wondering though, how do you check for lumps in your breasts? Mine feel lumpy all the time but I have no idea what I'm feeling for. Can anyone help me out?

Pleased everyone's doing OK :) Thanks Alice--it's great that you're bringing awareness to this.

Happily Experimenting (2 disclaimers, I'm not a doctor and, I am a man) so I'm sure others can give better advice. Please listen to them instead! But I hope this may be of some use / help in the meantime.

This is what I was told / taught. First off, don't to be afraid to press down with the flat part of both your hands when when examining, some women tend to do this too gently. Divide the breast up into sections and examine each area at time (e.g.) clockwise etc. Don't forget to check near the armpit or the sides of th breast, as this area gets neglected. And also, check the areola / nipple area for discharge or change in colour. As the breasts get bigger just before menstruation, it's probably easier to do this after your period.

You're looking for anything which feels abnormal. As you say it can be common for some women to have small fibroadenomas but if in doubt it's ALWAYS best to see your GP.

I had a colleague who had a testicle removed, he developed testicular cancer after a severe crush injury (crushed when a stack of pipes collapsed) despite also losing a lung he went on to live a full happy life and is now retired.

check yer goolies guys.

When I first posted this thread it had been 6 months since diagnosis, and it's now been three years!

Time for a BUMP!

Quite right Alice

33 years since I had a lumpectomy

Intresting thread. Nice to see the number of ladies that check their guys balls. My wife has never really checked mine. I probably dont check mine often enough, but so far so good.

I had really serious testicular pain about 8 years ago. Did some examination and felt a small lump on the testicle. Went to the GP who said it wasn't cancer and showed no interest in what might be causing the pain. Went everywhere from other doctors, to an STI clinic, to Harley Street specialists. Several months, several procedures and several thousand pounds later - the pain went away by itself. The consultant urologist told me the lump was a slightly larger natural piece of tissue where the testicle joined the epididymis. Fantastic.

I had the snip on the last friday before Christmas 2012.

I was awake. It was uncomfortable. They did swell a bit.

Just thought I'd throw that one in there.......keep calm and carry on !!!

If in dout get checked out
Had a painful lump a couple of weeks ago on one of my balls
Went to Doc's he had a feel said it wasn't anything serious
Sent me for ultrasound,appointments tomorrow
Not looking forward to that but hay-ho
Here's hoping
