Constantly Tired

Has anyone else had this? For the last three months or so ive been so tired all I want to do is sleep. Problem is im struggling to fall asleep and wake up just as tired. Ive also got flu like aches and pains as well as pain in my legs/short of breathe when walking.
I've also noticed I'm grumpy quite a lot and little things that usually don't bother me are upsetting me, this morning it was the milk not opening that upset me!!!!

Its really bothering me and making me stress more as I think my doc will think I'm bonkers.

Honestly, it sounds like mild depression to me.

I had similar effects a few years ago after some hard times in my life, all i wanted to do was sleep and be by myself. i was easily irratated and the smallest things could send me off on a complete rage.

If you want to talk to somone whos experienced depression and give you a wee moral boost give me an add. Im on like 20 hours a day so you can prety much garantiee il be on if you need somone to talk to. x

your doctor wont think youre bonkers, and if he does ask to see a different one!

it could be something viral or just being run down

it's best to go and check what it is

otherwise try to get a routine with sleeping and try to conserve energy - let the little things that don't matter as much slide or get someone else to do them.

are you taking painkillers when you feel achy? may be worth discussing with your Dr about using them to help a little.

It could be all sorts hun. You need to get a blood test done for starters. Go to the docs. It may not just be one thing so stop guessing and go to a professional!!!

LMF xx

I agree with Steve, it could be depression.

But another thing to look at is your diet. It sounds stupid but sometimes if you're lacking in certain nutrients it can make you feel tired & lethargic.

Definitely get yourself to the doctors though. It'll put your mind at rest if nothing else. And NO-ONE will think you're bonkers.

I've managed depressin forwards it's not the same feelings!! Blood screens were fine a month ago!! Will take it easy this week and see how I feel. I'm just fed up being overly sensitive and grumpy tbh

Depression for years! Silly auto correct

Depression can change how it feels tbh, it depends what would be keeping you down. But if you dont think it is i shall trust your opinon :). Still if you need somone just to chat to and give you a wee cheer up, im always around :). Im doing a pretty good job of keeping on top of most peoples sadness at the moment i like to think of myself as the forums big brother whos always around to cheer you up :D

It sounds like you could be suffering from chronic fatigue.

As a sufferer myself I know it can cause all sorts of symptoms from joint and muscle pain to depression.

I would definitely make an appointment to see your doctor to find out what is causing it and like Sweetlove said if he thinks you are bonkers then see someone else who takes your healthcare seriously!

Hope you feel better soon xx

I didn't want to worry you occhi but I was going to say the same thing, aside from the tiredness, flu like symptoms are another indicator to ME

Thanks guys, Mentally I feel great, I am in a great place in my life with work, relationships and in general. its the exhausted and sore that is making me grumpy (not feeling blue). My stomach has always been bad but the fact I break out into sweats walking is a little insane!!!

Someone has mentioned Chronic Fatigue to me in the past, which is another stress as my work are not supportive of people who are not 100% healthy and its another worry thats been on my mind recently that it may lead to time off work (My school is an academy and they can hire and fire as they please)

I think I will go see the doc this week as talking to my mum and thinking about the past I have visited the doc on and off with back pain, exhaustion, bad stomachs, sore joints to have blood taken and be told there is nothing showing. I've been tested for thyroid, diabetes etc.... always comes back negative.

My newest worry is random pins and needles!!

I'm back on very strong vitamins to see if it will help and trying to see if there is anything else I can do. I have to admit I do feel better after yoga and other non pressure things but if something upset/bothers me my initial reaction is to sleep. Its just annoying.

OH has been great but I know the little over reacting moments are annoying.

I agree with the others about seeing the doctor, but have you also thought about grabbing a bottle of Metatone? It's a kind of tonic thingy packed with stuff that's good for you. Whenever someone feels run-down or constantly tired in my family, it's the first thing anyone suggests :P

Will look out for it! i take really strong vitamins so will look that out too :D thanks

I feel like this a lot too but I've come to the conclusion it's probably because I lack certain nutrients and vitamins including calcium. it really does make your body feel extremely lethargic. I currently take calcium tablets even though I'm in my 20's.

I was feeling really bad a year ago or so and even my OH noticed because I complained so much and we realised that these effects started around the same time I was on the depo injection (contraception). It doesn't help that one of the possible side effects is osteoporosis (weakening of the bones) and that doesn't help with my very low calcium levels. I literally used to sleep for so long and yet couldn't wake up.. when I was awake it was pure hell trying to do anything because I had zero energy.

I agree with the majority though to go to your doctor. Good luck.

I feel tired a lot but I sleep badly as well, partly due to all the times I've spent up late playing computer games and chatting to online friends. I think also for me it's a lack of structure to my day since I'm not working at present and am between university courses...

Katsumi said it already but Chronic Fatigue or Chronic Viral Fatigue can do all this to you and will take ages to be found by doctors since its just one of those annoying things they want to test for everything more common first, but blood tests, multivits and try yoga or anything mild exercisey that relaxes you. i know you dont have the energy for it but in a few weeks youll feel better for it.

Hope you feel better soon

i don't think there's an actual test for cfs/me so it's a case of "well you havent got anything else so it must be that" which is annoying

e me ascociation might be of help http://www.meassociation.org.uk/

It could be a number things but if it's been going on more than three months, definitely see a doctor!

As people have said, it sounds like CFS/ME or even could be HMS or Fibro. I suffer from hypermobility syndrome (HMS also known as ehlers danlos syndrome hypermobile type - h-eds) which means my ligaments are lacks and my joints are too bendy - means I'm prone to dislocations but sufferers don't always have dislocations! It's mainly characterised by chronic joint pain and susceptibility to injuries as well as ME like chronic fatigue and brain fog associated symptoms. It can mean people are clumsy too as their proprioception is often poor. You can also get nerve damage which can lead to a whole range of symptoms including pins and needles.

Fibromyalgia is similar as well, but this condition is characterised by tender points in specific places.

Hiya,
From your symptoms is definetely sounds like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/M.E -which I am a sufferer of myself.

Around 20% of the population have a highly sensitive nervous system (which is hereditary). In ancient times, this high sensitivity would have been an advantage as it would have made us more alert to danger and quicker to react (therefore being more likely to escape from predators etc). However, in modern times unfortunately the stress of our fast-paced, hectic and demanding lives take their toll on such individuals. Stress is interpreted by the brain as danger, which triggers the fight or flight response in the body (causing all sorts of physical and physiological reactions in the body which account for many of the symptoms of M.E). Unfortunately the symptoms caused by this are distressing themselves and also get interpreted as danger, triggering the same response. Fight or Flight is only meant to be a temporary state as it is extremely draining on the body. Unfortunately chronic fatigue develops when the body gets stuck in a cycle of trigger, symptoms, trigger, symptoms, and it becomes worse and worse, until the sufferer becomes ill (i.e they are diagnosed with CFS/M.E). It's a complex neurological condition.

There is a guy called Ashok Gupta, who as a former sufferer has compiled the latest research and formed a theory that the amygdala in the brain plays a major role in CFS/M.E (I.E that it becomes conditioned to respond to the slightest stimulus as danger and triggers the physiological response in the body). It's very interesting and may help your understanding of the illness. He has made a collection of short videos explaining the illness which I will link to below. He also sells a DVD recovery programme, but personally I wouldn't bother with that, as from the description I believe it essentially comprises of the information on how to recover that is available for free elsewhere-such as from NHS run CFS Clinics (which I have attended and found helpful).

Don't be afraid to go to your doctor, this is a very real illness and will be taken seriously. It's understood far better today than it was 12 years ago when I first came down with it-back then doctors didn't take it seriously and I went through a great deal or trouble, but things are very different these days. There is also a site called Action For M.E which you may find helpful. www.actionforme.org.uk

I wish you all the best, remember you are not alone in this! X

I wonder as a side note...In my attendance to the CFS clinic and support groups, I've often been with much older adults and the subject of anything sex-related has never come up and quite franly I've been too embarassed to ask...But this seems like the appropriate place to do so!:

Fellow M.E/CFS suffers, how do you find the illness affects your sex drive? I have had M.E/CFS since I was 14 (before I had any sexual feelings), so I cannot compare my sex drive in a "before and after" sense as it all developed at the same time as being ill. However, I seem to have a very high sex drive and while there could be many reasons for this (I do think it runs in my family) and it could be utterly conincidental, I always wonder if it's affected by the illness and I've been dying to ask other sufferers if they have found the same thing!?
