Ages ago now I purchased a toy (not from here - yeah, I know, naughty me lol!) - it is one of the omar vibrators. I don't really need a vibrator, just a dildo, but I like this toy, I enjoy the feel of it inside of me.
The problem is, it has started to go all rough down one side, it is difficult to describe (if anyone knows what I am talking about and why this happens, please chime in), but it isn't pleasant putting it inside me any more. Although this http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=34099 may not look like much it has the quick release function that you're looking for! As for your current toys state I'd say it wasn't made from a completely body safe material so has degraded, I'd opt for silicone toys in the future!

+1 this. It does sound like it's a jelly like material issue. Silicone is really the best option. Chemically most other things deteriorate and also these are super higienic and easy to clean.
As far as cock rings go, the adjustable ones like the one Scorpius has included are always highly recommended (though obviously I've never tried it myself...).
I would suggest that you stick with toys made of silicone, glass, stainless steel or ABS plastic as you can be sure they're bodt safe. Have you considered trying a glass toy? They're great!
