50% of Hilton hotels for a while.

Arran's wonderful! We went there for my dad and stepmother's honeymoon (they loved the idea of a family holiday more than a romantic break since they were on their own together a lot, and missed us being around!). The water is unrealistically clear, and it's so beautiful. Keep wishing I could go back.

Other place that's pretty nifty is York. Gorgeous old town, lot of cheap and pretty little B&Bs and inns, loads to do, and some gorgeous scenic walks. Still a wee bit of a trek for ye, but it is a magical place. If I was ever going to do the whole "retire to..." thing, think it'd be there.

If you've not been to Edinburgh, it can be quite good as it has a great balance of culture, history, art, shopping and clubs.

I've always enjoyed Whitby during the festiuval season, andd outside of that it's probably a lot quieter and cheaper. Scenic, lots of sites of interest, and you can probably rent a cottage for a decent price.

Aww thanks guys!! we did look into center parcs and it looks amazing, and the log fire idea sounds beautiful. I think the OH is set on Bath at the moment as he wants to site see etc.

We are planning to do this on May Bank Holiday as it will be our 1st wedding anniversary so we want to do something special. All your ideas have been great and i really appreiciate all the responses

A couple of ideas off the beaten track -

http://www.mrandmrssmith.com/ has boutique hotels all around the country: To be honest, we just use the (expensive!) catalogue as a kind of hotelier-porn, but one day we're going to save up and visit one!

http://www.featherdownfarm.co.uk/# is a new-ish brand of luxury camping holidays. They're aimed at families (big tents!) but if you like the outdoors with decent facilities, have a look.

An amazing place to go for a romantic weekend is Foxgloves Cottages near Drymen http://www.foxglovecottages.co.uk/index.html Pure luxury, a bit pricey but it is 5 star. You can book it through Late Rooms. My OH took me for our anniversary last year and we loved it!

Want to hire my VW Camper !!!

I'm going to a caravan in wales for 200-300 pound again this year, went last october with the OH and it was great, really nice to just be alone!
