I have been thinking about getting an ipad but to be honest I cant seem to see anything negative about it. I currently have a macbook (which I only use at home) and a HTC phone which does all the fancy stuff. So as much as I really want an ipad, I have no clue what I would benefit from having it (when did I grow up!!!!!)
firstly - WAIT. The new ipad is meant to be announced next week. It probably won't be released for a couple of months, but you'll have the extra time to think :-)
Secondly, they're great. I bought a 3 Mifi dongle with mine, which is better than getting it with a sim card in (definitely better signal, for a start). Perfect for when I'm on a train and don't want to lug my laptop around, Pages is particularly good for writing on the run.
well its the offer thats got me thinking.... its with orange £100 up front for the ipad and £25 a month... sorely tempted as my macbook is 5 years old. What is word processing like on an ipad???
not sure I'd want to do a lot of word processing on a touch screen device Occhi...
There are some things that PCs (well, ok macs too!) are still best at.
Well i like to sound all intelligent but in reality it would be for browsing and reading things mainly. My bro in law said you can get a bluetooth keyboard.
Ipads seem to be best as an addition to your computer. So if youre getting it because you want to replace you lappy then its probably a bad idea....the processing power isnt all that great...
There are a lot of alternatives on their way as well Occhi. There will be lots of Android tablets around I would take a bet that they will be cheaper than the iPad.
Another thing about the iPad 2 is that it will drop the price of the original so I'd wait for that. And seriously... stay away from contracts with mobile providers unless you REALLY need the 3G version. You will lose money over all and the only thing that you will get it a 3G service that most people don't need.

You get used to it, but it's really not a replacement for a writing on a laptop. Formatting is nowhere near what it should be & file management is a big pain. Think of it more as a "consuming" device than a "creating" device.
I think I'm gonna leave it (when did I grow up and not want fad items) I have a HTC Desire HD and its the dogs.. and my macbook just isnt knckered enough to justify replacing it!!
lol aww thanks Vanquish... im a total technogeek.... I used to drive my family batty with my obsession .... I buy and sell things as I go to feed the habit... not as bad as I used to be but yes the Desire HD is porn!!
Its ten steps ahead of the Iphone in my opinion which I had and it lasted about 4 months as did the blackberry curve....
Wait for the ipad2. I honestly think whats the point of investing so much money in something and not to be at the cutting edge. In the end you'll pay as much or even more than you would have buying it outright from Apple. Depending on your credit card rating it might be cheaper that way and you can pay it off faster than the 24mnths if you wanted to/could afford to.
I love the idea of an iPad but I have a new macbook Air ( oh how I love thee ) and an iPhone 4 so it would be an utter indulgence to get one. I knew that the first one was stunted and the lack of camera was so obviously going to come in the next model. Announcement is due March 2.
Will Steve Jobs give the keynote? Sadly I don't think so.
iPad is great, iPad 2 is probably worth going for though rather than the original like I have got. Faster processor and graphics, however I would not upgrade and would rather wait until version 3!!!
