I've been with my partner for 2 years, we have discussed anal play & she doesn't seem interested.

So my question is, from any ladies or gents out there, how would I get a nice easy start to anal play, & which items could you suggest?

Anal exploration advice almost invariably starts with explore with a finger, then two then small toy etc (working up to a penis if that is the goal, but it doesn't sound like it is in your case). However, I personally find even with lots of lube and well trimmed fingernails fingers are comparatively harsh compared to a toy even quite a bit larger. So although not a bad idea to start with a finger to explore the area and the sensations, I wouldn't be too put off if it feels a bit uncomfortable.
As for toys, I would recommend a small tapered dildo or probe to start, as you can start with just a small width, but work your way up to a larger diameter as you get more confident and comfortable, without having to buy lots of toys. With beads and plugs I think they are a little trickier as you have less control of them and they are one size mostly, so there is limited opportunity for development with one toy. I would recommend something silicone as it is longer lasting and safer than jelly or rubber (not to mention tasteless and odorless, though more expensive initially, it will repay the investment) and has a bit of give so is more comfortable than glass or metal (for me, others find the smoothness of glass makes it easier to insert). Take it slow and use lots of a good quality water-based anal lube such as Maximus or Sliquid Sassy. And if it is uncomfortable, take it slow, and if painful, stop. Hope some of this is useful, obviously my own personal views.
