I guess I would have picked there too if I was to go abroad :P.. Hope you guys have a lot more laughs, and good luck for you future together :D

confucious say: Man who walk through airport sideways going to bankok

And phukt is pronounced Poo-ket but even at the travel agents we were calling it fuckit :-D only then were we told the pronounciation.

um its not v nice is it having a thread dissing ppl who give out negatives... ppl r entitled 2 their opinions. ive given some negs and +s based on if i liked the review and if its helped me in choosing what 2 buy its nothing personal to the 1 who wrote it. looks like im not the only 1 neway cos u cant vote a 2nd time on the same review. voting for ppl u like or ppl who got negs is worse than giving -s in the 1st place imho thats cheating...

Trying to do reviews on products like the soaps that have been "awarded" for the review prizes is really hard IMO. What can you really say without reading from the bottle, other than if it works or not ? Ah well ....at least I tried !

I totally agree lesleys. Sometimes people are n't terribly vocal anyway so they just want to tell others in their own way and at the level their happy with. I've noticed some reviews are really packed with information and beautifully written but at the end of the day it comes down to it either works for that person or it does n't. Also some people struggle with the composition of their reviews, but in all fairness they give it a go, not everyone has had the educational oppotunities of others.

Re the above from doofydoo:
Cadet profile: joined 1/8/07 messages 1 (as above) reviews NIL !! Sorry but ..Yes EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion but....

Doofydoo - true, everyone is entitled to their opinion but there are some folk I['m afraid top say ywho do seem to like piling a load of negatives against other folks - I like the idea of a comments box, after all, whats the point of being told something is pants or unhelpful if you're not told why?!

Yeah I really like a well-thought review, but I don't mind if there are spelling mistakes etc. I just want to know as much about the product and the user's experience of the product as possible.

doofydoo, you have not written a review yet. What if you put your heart into writing, was having fun and then some spiteful git came along and started 'dissing' your reviews. Even reviews that were great and won prizes, ones that had loads of positives until they came along and negatived just to be an asshole rather than for it being a bad review? Just because they were jealous that we get freebies because we work hard.

Justifiable negatives is one thing, trying to get people's ratings down out of spite is another which is what trolls do. The comments box idea is ideal and at least then they have to put a bit more effort into it that just click, next, click... oh I don't like that person so negative all their stuff.

I have never thought to check my reviews but having just looked, I have only one positive and one negative, both for the same review. Oh well!

I haven't given out any ratings either but I would only leave a negative if the review was completely useless and gave no information about the product (such as the above mentioned 'its crap' or 'its great' comments). Whether the review is positive or negative about a product doesn't matter as long as we know why so it helps us to make a choice. I don't tend to write long in-depth reviews like some of you guys but I do try to give my opinion & share my experiences with the products as that is what its all about. I agree with lesleys though, some things aren't easy to review, like the 'feminine wash' I got as a prize! (complete with 2 promotional t-shirts saying 'I'm latex-friendly' which I was tempted to wear to sunday lunch). There are some things where you can only write a limited amount but it is always helpful to have that little bit of extra info that the product details don't contain.

Miss Kitty I'm so jealous, I need a holiday :-( Not enough to get married though so looks like I'll have to settle for a camping weekend! With the weather as its been, wonder if people will still hear the noise of tent sex over the rain?

Doofy may be new and review-less, but that doesn't actually make his opinion void.

As I said early on, I got negatives that I think came strictly from the fact that I was close enough to the top to attract attention, and I still believe that my idea of a comment box is necessary--but that doesn't mean in the slightest that I agree that we should all go give helpfuls to people who we 'like'.

There are people who joined this site simply because they wanted to follow my reviews, and people who come here through my main site. I expect that they are heavier with helpfuls because they already like my style of writing and have bought products based on my suggestions. And certainly, anyone who reads my comments on here and then follows through to my profile and likes what they see, it makes sense to give me a helpful. But I have no need for someone to just go through and give me a helpfuls down the line because you feel I need them after getting negatives--or anyone else.

I like this site because we are all giving our honest opinions. I am not looking forward to this site becoming a popularity contest and an insular, cliquish family. I give unhelpful votes--usually when I'm honestly looking to buy a product and I read a review that is devoid of information or seems just an excuse to write bad porn. I will give an unhelpful regardless of who I'm giving it to.

Let new people have their opinions. And let unhelpfuls stand without countering them with helpfuls. If you like what someone writes or don't, give your honest opinion.

Hopefully, the powers that be will listen to our suggestion of a comment box for unhelpful votes. Until then, please, seriously, stop voting for popularity.

Amen McB, it truly does seem that the more popular a site becomes the cliquier it becomes.

I do not write reviews, but I do purchase the products. The reviews are tres helpful. Well, some of them are.

*applauds mcbirdie*

I've seen a lot of sites get horribly clique-y in my time online, and it always makes the environment less pleasant, and intimidates newbies terribly. I think it's fair enough to read through the reviews of someone you like, but you shouldn't applaud PURELY because you like the writer, or to balance out some negatives. Reviews should be awarded + or - based on how genuinely helpful the reviews are.

Perhaps there should be an option to vote on how helpful a member is, as well as the reviews. That way someone could show gratitude for the helpful messages on the boards.

Morning folks,
Doesn't this thread kind of take you back to your school days !! I remember once getting a Biology A level essay on meosis and mitosis, viz a viz the frog, back, the teacher wrote "unto the Lord give thanks you have made it". Still only gave me a B+ for it though. Mildly miffed to say the least. However we talked it through and l finished up with a greater ken of what he had wanted. The review process here takes place in a pretty hermetically sealed environment, and if the reviewer has, for any reason failed to address the critique of the reviewer then in the words of that famous northern sage so beloved by Bath Bi Guy and myself, ....nil points.... Perhaps some further dialogue with the creator before posting the review. Could serve to keep up the friendly levels of OA the reviewer's needs, and maybe, just maybe, better inform the writer and lead to a more polished style. Not too polished though as l seem to recall suggestions that my first review for Three Bangs was not writted by a real OA member !! as if.
The contra argument will run that we should publish and be dammed. However if we are trying to accomodate newbies, avoid cliquiness, and maintain a friendly OA should we not at least consider it.
There are some great people out there amongst you all, lets do ourselves justice and COMMUNICATE !!!
Talking of Bath Bi Guy, not away in Phuckett is he?
Anyone heard ????
Have a FABBIE DAY.

I now have 15 negs... 3 for a review that can not have even been read correctly..it was for thjr bada bing ring... I've been away for a while so have only just noticed this thread...

Yes, it's a great idea to make it possible for people to see who's been +ing and -ing them...

We'll also do some investigation behind the scenes to see if there's pattern of the same user giving lots of negatives to lots of people, or lots of negatives to only a few people...

[Dons Sherlock Holmes deerstalker and Poirot glasses. (Did Poirot wear glasses?]

@lesleys - please don't call it a day. There are many many more people here who appreciated your reviews, thoughts and input than have clicked unhelpful...
