Rant Thread - Get it all out here

Think it was an EU rule that all cars have to have daylight running lights. As they’re mostly led nowadays i don’t think they take up too much energy.
But i will add to your rant…people who use fog lights in all conditions except fog!
Once regularly saw a knobhead on my way to work with red bulbs in his front fog lights…:roll_eyes:

I believe @KinkyMira the driver of the car gets no option to turn the lights off. It comes from a European law i think which states all cars after a certain date had to have lights on if used on the road. A silly rule/law really. I may be totally wrong with this info though.

Yes, i can’t turn mine off. But if it helps stop accidents i don’t mind.

As stated, its an EU law because some countrys get constant darkness, therefore any lighy is better than no light, a day running light is exactly what they are and 99% of them are LEDS which use less energy and draw less current than standard bulbs.

As most our cars are made in EU they just keep the same set up for our roads here in blighty.

@Knight1119 cheers mon,i waited 3hrs int end,which is nothing unusual…
Oh and guess what, I’m waiting again this morning (1 1/4hrs so far) which is a bit miffin as today’s my Friday and i just want to get this week done…
@WillC completely agree with your comment about fog lights,apparently it’s “cool”
No you’re making yourself look a chuffin moron…

That really sucks @pootle mate, I hope you get away soon :slightly_frowning_face:

@pootle does this waiting make you finish late or do you still get to finish on time?

@JoCat pretty much.
Had my load been ready for 06.30 when i clocked on i would’ve been leaving the depot at about 07.15 (after hooking up the trailer, doing all the daily checks,filling in the paperwork etc) and i would’ve been finishing between 15.30 - 16.30.
Now I’ve been waiting just over 2 1/2hrs and I’ve still got the same run up to west Yorkshire so my 9-10hr day has just become a 11-12hr day,and that’s if there’s no delays on the roads or i get held up at the delivery point and that’s if i left now!!!

That is not good @pootle your day just gets longer and you are unable to influence that. I really feel for you. Good luck and I hope you get going soon.

@steve19 unfortunately waiting for hours is the story of a truck driver’s life…

Rage! I would be throwing constant tantrums.

@JoCat trouble is that just stresses you out,there are ‘drivers’ here that would do that but i can’t be arsed, I’m old school and accept it to keep the job going and food on the shelves…

It is an EU law about headlights but quite why that would apply now to the many cars made in the UK is unclear to me.

As a motorcyclist I used to get flashed by french drivers for having my lights on ‘too early’ (before the EU silliness of day light headlights) and now I get flashed in the UK for just having sidelights on at dusk when the road is completely visible.

It is not just an EU thing, the US manufacturers introduced it years ago, if I owned an electric car I think I might want to get someone to install a switch so I wasn’t draining the battery during daylight hours (but I would also worry about having the radio on).

I did have a Volvo (from this century) that didn’t have daylight lights, I guess a previous owner had got someone to change the wiring.

That I’m afraid is the life of a trucker. It’s the same with hubby too, his working day can be anywhere from 10 hours to 15. Some of deliveries he can be waiting from a few minutes to a few hours, a couple of times one of them he’s waited about 5 hours before, and made it back just in time before his driving hours were up.

Think it might be because a lot of cars are made in the EU, think Fiestas are made in Spain, so it wouldn’t be economical to change the manufacturing process just for cars to be sold in the UK?

They now manage (including the US) to put the steering wheel on the right side. Just as car manufactured in this country for export are expected to to have the steering wheel on the other side. Cars always had switches for lights, both mine do.
I guess the point I was trying to make was more about the change from people complaining (a few decades ago) that you had your lights on too early to now when people flash you that you only have side lights on if it is a bit overcast.

Jings I need a bit of a rant.

So I had covid in December last year. Since then I have had a cough which comes and goes in severity and wheeziness and with exercise it’s a million times worse. For those who remember, I also developed chronic migraines and have been placed on beta blockers 3 times a day as a preventative measure.

My cough still isn’t getting better and with exercise I literally can’t breathe, either with coughing fits or wheezing. I went to the doctor today and they’re assuming it’s asthma. So there’s a few options of how this has come about:

  1. Asthma has developed as a direct result of covid
  2. I’ve always had underlying asthma and covid has made it come to light
  3. My beta blockers are making my symptoms worse
  4. I may have naturally developed asthma over time

I’ve now been placed on a 4-6 week trial of daily inhalers and different ones for when I attempt to do exercise.

I’ve been trying to lower the dose of beta blockers as I don’t want to be taking them long term. But if I come off these full time (which I may have to if they are making my symptoms worse) I’ll be back to having daily migraines.

It’s just feels a bit of a nightmare at the moment and I’m caught in a viscous cycle. Fix one thing and another thing develops :roll_eyes:
