Could I point out that there are normal variations? Particularly in breasts as part of the menstrual cycle. I have lumps and bumps that come and go in my breasts during my cycle which can be quite painful at certain points in the month, but have been checked and are in fact completely harmless parts of the tissue responding to hormones. Men have less of an obvious cycle but it is worth checking very regularly (say every 2 days) for the first couple of months so you get used to exactly how your breasts / testes change on a day-day basis as a response to your hormones. Especially important for anyone taking drugs that alter your hormonal balance eg the pill / any form of steroid.
Oh and make sure you're checking the right areas - the whole scrotum, perineum and base of the penis (and prostate too, although more for the older gents) and for breasts the breast itself, the Cooper's ligament area (the bit above the breast) and into the arm pits. It's much easier and nicer with a little lube! And a rather lovely intro to a bit of doctor and nurse play Lxx
The radio station I listen to has something called 'Feel your bits friday!' Once a month they remind you to check your bits, both men and woman. I think it's a great idea. Maybe an idea for a new thread.
I've had a bit of a scare myself. While I was pregnant I found a lump in my breast. I was so scared, more so because I was pregnant. It turned out to be nothing but a blocked milk duct. The relief when I found out it wasn't anything serious.

That's so very true! With the tubes in particular it's easy to think "wait, is that a lump....." *check the other one*..."well it's on both, maybe that's normal"

Hah. I remember finding the lumpybit at the back... no one tells you there are 'normal' lumps!
It's a fucking minefield. Men should probably get periodic check ups like women do, since we don't really know what we're looking for. And I'd bet those who do check themselves regularly are in the minority.

one of the signs is the testicle can go hard like a stone and is not as painful to squeze as they are normally so its not always about lumps..... please check yourself everytime you have had a bath.... they say thats the best time..... believe me just going for tests is very scary.... for the people that have had it and come through it my respects are with you.

(It was caught early, treated quickly and he has been clear of cancer for over 6 months now.) I'm lucky to work at LoveHoney and have the opportunity to ask young men who are interested in their sexual well being to check their balls. Please do it, and please do it regularly.
