iv read your links and thanks for warning me, silicone seems like the safest bet but I cant aford it so i will have to go without a toy for the time being... damn! Would i guys mind if i ask ur advice in future purchases?

Please always ask. You can also find me and a few others hanging out at the r/sextoys sub on Reddit.

I know silicone is more expensive, but it's your health and safety. It's better to save up a little for silicone, then spend the money on an urgent care visit =/

re: the Bedtime plug? Most likely, yes.

how am i ment to no if it is pure silicone? i cant find ingredients any where?
also can u get flexible silicone?

Why don't you buy one toy instead of the two you were going to get? And make it a safe one, then you can save up for another safe one. Yes, you will end up spending more but you will also be getting high quality. Here are some anal beads that I believe are definitely silicone

I don't personally have the vibrating butt plug you linked so I can't say for sure, but I believe it is silicone because it's Lovehoney's own brand product. You are always welcome to ask questions, always.

Plastic is a safe material, do you mean the Dream Bullet? I have one and it doesn't smell and feels safe to me. And the material is given in the decription, if it says silicone it most likely is.

My OH got the http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=24318 he really liked it! And he does recommend it.

As PPD said, silicone is more expensive but it actually lasts longer than rubber and jelly toys too. So it's an investment.

You can generally tell if something is silicone by just looking at it and sniffing it - it shouldn't have a smell (sometimes it will because of the packaging, but if it doesn't fade after a couple of washes then it's probably not silicone). Once you know what to look out for, you will know if your toys are safe or not -

Honestly, spend more on good quality. There are so many Lovehoney toys made out of silicone that don't break the bank. Fun Factory and Tantus also make fairly affordable silicone toys.

I think most of these are in fact silicone http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/sex-toys/anal-sex-toys/all/all/all/all/silicone/all/ but I couldn't say for sure about the cheaper ones without looking at them in person.

I just made myself sound like an arse, I didn't mean I can judge if a toy is silicone purely by looking at it - I don't have magical eyes. But once you have a few silicone toys you'll be able to tell the difference, trust me.

I don't see any reason why the LH branded ones wouldn't be 100% silicone as advertised and I'd have no problem using it. Over the years LH has been a company that I trust and when they say something is silicone then I trust that. So with all the LH silicone items you've linked I'm sure they'd all be fine!
I'm unable to give you any opinions on those particular products though since I don't own any of them. They do all seem to have good reviews though, so give them a read.

What are folks general opinions on things like this:

http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=16031

It says it's made of 'skin safe rubber' and is one of LH own brand products.

These kinda toys have a limited life span anyways due to their battery life so do you think they're safe to use as a one or two-time only thing? Especially as I don't intend to use this 'inside' at all.

Thoughts?

Nawty Novice I would generally stay away from that because of the batteries rather than the material. LRs are the most annoying things ever, I find they leak so easily too and don't reallly produce that much power. N, AA & AAA battery operated toys are much better.

Can I ask what the appeal is? Is it the sleeve or the fact that it's a finger vibe, or maybe something else entirely?

this says its silicone but its doc johnson and you said they were dodgy? What do you both think to this one? x

Ok, LH removed the toys they knew they had phtalates in them, but the problem here is that there is no 100% sure of knowing if it does or does not have any. Because the industry is not regulated.
This is why I am now sticking with manufacturers like Lelo, Fun Factory, Tantus and also LH own toys, because these are the safer bet. They have high reputation and I doubt either would be using potentially harmful chemicals in the toys, like phtalates.

And the reason why skin safe rubber is not the most ideal material is that it is porous. And being porous means you have to be extra careful with cleaning it to ensure its cleaned and I am afraid bodily fluids could still remain in the toys. And this is where the main problem is even if it is phalate free.

As for Doc Johnson, I am not sure you can fully trust them.
Maybe you can go for http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=13884 ?
Just tiny bit more expensive, but it is Tantus.

This is limiting my choice haha, i want a flexible. one... the Tantus one is firm. Also LH own brand rabbit vibrators are made out of skin safe rubber? Should I stay away from those?

what about pvc toys?

I'm finding the way this thread has gone from can i store these toys together to an heretical and scare mongering amd occasionally vociferous rant about materials.
If lovehoney say it's safe it's good enough for me, I'd rather believe those than people who, whilst passionate, are essentially hobbyists who get given free stuff.

I agree with Sub, I've been following this thread, but I haven't posted, and if I was someone who was new to sex toys I just wouldn't bother buying anything! I know that some toys have chemicals but so does everything else in our daily lives, from water bottles to cleaning products to food! If I stayed away from absolutely anything that had chemicals that could form my body in some way, it would be pretty impossible.

If that's your personal opinion on silicone toys then fair enough, but you shouldn't be forcing your choices on someone else. There are plenty of lovehoney toys and other branded toys for sale on the site that aren't made out of silicone that I use and up until now I've felt comfortable using. It is very scarmongering.

There's a lot of Silicone toys that are flexible, there's all different types of silicone toys. So there is a wide range of variety.

As I said earlier in regards to LH branded toys I don't have a problem with them, as I trust the specifications of them by LH.

SS It was in no way my intention to 'scare monger' anyone and I am sorry if it's come across that way. But I don't appropriate being called a 'hobbyist that gets given free stuff' because I put forward my opinion on the materials of the toys she was asking about which is why they can't be stored together. It comes across to me as though you're saying I'm a hypocrite because I receive items to test; yes I receive items for free, but never have I asked for jelly/rubber toys ect because I wouldn't personally use them.

Well, until relatively recently LH was selling products containing phtalates. They got rid of them, but they would still sell toys, which they believe are phtalates free. Even if they are jelly or rubber. But does not mean they are non porous. I do not know about skin safe rubber, but the word rubber personally worries me.
And lets face it, people still do not know much about sex toys or how little this industry is controlled. I did not know either and made these mistakes, but I very face threw both toys like that away. Luckily before they did much harm as I seem to be on the more sensitive side to chemicals.

And yes, I am passionate about safety. After half a year of infections, after this I ended up on antiotics with streptococcus vaginal infection. And nope, the reason was not hygine, the reason was lube and maybe even reaction to one of the porous dildos material.
I rather play safe and advise others to be safe. Because I have been there. And I do not want to be there again.
