Do you hoard things?

After a clean out on friday I was left in a dizzying sense of reality I had been living in a cess pit I didnt realize it but slowly over the years I had collected.

hundreds of little paint pots for my minatures, paint brushes, boxes, about 500 minature models, camping gear, 3 tents 2 with gaping holes, a broken playstaion 2, assorted bits of wood I had been using for various scenery to go with my models, 3 boxes from lovehoney and the list goes on and on.

Most disturbingly after ripping out everything including the very carpet it all went back in which was when I realized why so much dust had gone unoticed.

Anyway was wondering what or do you hoard anything?

PMSL have spent the last couple of days sorting through craft stash, as I bought a hugh load from someone who was giving up cardmaking. 3 car loads and now I have to put it all away. Which was when I realised how much I already had

Oh god forgot to mention I did throw about three bin bags away and the models well erm yeah I swear one day I will get rid of them.

i'm like that with my cross stitch stuff, hundereds of skeins of thread and enough material to last me. plus all the magazines i've ever bought and a load of books, buttons, pens and stickers.

I tend to hoard sentimental things too- teddies, birthday cards and letters, figurines and jewelry that is worthless and i don't wear

I'm terrible! Been saying for ages need to do a huge clear out!

Another one who crafts so got tonnes of card making and cross stitch stuff.

Got loads of other useless stuff I don't need, still got boxes in my hall cupboard from when I moved in 2 years ago that I've not even opened! Couldn't even tell you what's in them!

I'm very bad about hoarding stuff too. I find it difficult to throw things away if I think they might be useful at some future time (which applies to almost everything, when you think about it). It doesn't help that it's generally simpler to push stuff away into a cupboard than it is to sort through it.

One exception to this is sex toys. Our lockable toy box is a limited size, and so we need to throw away old ones to make room for new ones. Perhaps we need a bigger box!

Get a bigger box! Really, why throw out something you lke just because it's got competition? Keep your current box as an "in use" stash, and store the others somewhere secure but harder to access. Swap round regularly...

I hoard things too, but there's very little I'm so attached to that I won't ditch it in a good clear out. The trouble is getting up the energy to clear things out!

I definitely hoard! I keep nice packaging on the off-chance I might use it one day! Seriously. I hoard old clothes that I never ever wear, sex toys, foreign money, art equipment, DVDs I never watch, toys from my childhood... Everything!

Does anyone else have like a bag/drawer/box of memories? Old letters and cinema tickets and such? =)

I was thinking that it was a crafter thing but after husband died I cleared out his shed, had to hire a skip to get rid of all the crap I found!

I am hoarding as well, clothes, boxes, coins, papers, even books i dont really read, but I am telling myself that maybe one day... Need to go through my things and do some cleaning. Starting to have too many papers.

He's a hoarder, I'm a frantic chucker-outer! I think being self employed has made us paper-crazy. We have to keep all our receipts for our tax returns. I have a system for mine. He has about a thousand plastic bags for his, the result being that a) he has a nervous breakdown when it comes to doing the return, and b) I found a receipt yesterday for a sausage roll he bought in 2003, which must have lived with him in no fewer than 3 flats!

Interesting that so many of us are crafters - I'm into card making and knitting.

Im a bit of both... as a teacher, I tend to hoard loads of worksheets and other things I make, buy along the way... I also cant get rid of shoes, bags, coats.... and lots and lots of trinkets I have bought over the years.

I do go through phases of boxing/binning things.... :)

I like to keep memories :D

Ha! I'm actually a hoarder myself.. I just have this mindset that "We may need this some other time so let's keep it until then.." unfortunately it doesn't work that way and things just build up being unused. That usually ends up with me having massive clearouts every so often. It's unbelievable how many Lovehoney boxes I've accumulated. I've had to break them down and get rid of them. >.<

I like to reuse things and love the idea of not "wasting" and recycling. It's perfect, in a sense, as I intend to settle down with my OH with a little picturesque farm and garden and become self sustained somewhat. I doubt it'll turn out quite like I have in mind.. but I can still hope.

Yes, I do, a drawer. I try to be organised with all that but it ends up being quite random. I have the tickets for when I went to the US and the old bullet erm.. used bit for when I first shot a gun with my OH at cans. I have good aim. =P

I have every flight stub in my passport holder for the last 5-6 years including my flight to Canada when I moved there and Ecuador.... and I also keep a folder/box of all the things the OH has done with me or brought me (i love reading articles on random stuff so I tend to keep them!

I have spent the weekend clearing out an old shed that is falling apart so that I can build a new shed. It's been a nightmare. Some of the stuff must have been in there for 10 years without seeing the light of day. Of course, most of it is complete junk.

In case you have not heard it, this McIntyre piece may have a certain resonance for some:-

I like boxes. I keep every nice box I ever get and have them all stashed.

I have a massive chest full of things from when me and the OH were long distance.

I do tend to hoard things but I'm also pretty ruthless when I have a clear out once a year and get rid of everything apart from the really sentimental/genuinely useful (as in not just things that "may, possibly be useful in the future") things!

I have made a collection of the boxes and envelopes from LH. I'm hoarding them because I think they'll be useful for packing up ebay items etc. Hmm hate seeing things go to waste. Waste not want not.

I am a life long hoader! Im trying to change my ways, but its very difficult... i am way to sentimental for my own good! Would you beleive i still have my christening cards, and all my birthday cards since childhood! It really is ridicolous what i hoard lol........... every year i have a spring clean and a declutter, but it alwys creeps back in... i am a teacher and like Occhi,... i have tons of worksheets , resources i have made, coloured paper and card etc etc.... but if i dont change my ways... i will need a mansion by the time my kids are 10 as it looks as if they will follow my footsteps lol

Sorted! I applied my DIY skills this morning to create a concealed space in our bedroom wardrobe to be our new secret stash for toys, books, DVDs etc. Hopefully by having easier access to these now, my wife and I will use them more. External Media

This also means that I can place another LH order soon without having to worry about where to stow the goods when they arrive. External Media
