Ridiculous waist sizing?

I have been looking at some lingerie and I noticed something odd going on. If you look at the sizing for this one, size 16 for one size is up to 32 inches, 18 is 38 inches round waist for one size queen?

http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=21306

The same here, size 14 32 inches round waist, size 16 is 38 inches.

http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=18410

I have to admit I am giving up on lingerie, as my hips are big, about 42 inches, but my waist is only about 32.5 inches, so 14 may be just fitting or bit smaller, the next size is just going to be too big for me round my waist and if I "loose" my waist I am going to look wider than I am. I guess they assume that a woman with larger size does not have slimmer waist, because she has gained weight, both round her bottom and her waist, but I still find it a bit strange.

Any suggestions? I will be looking for some lingerie soon, not sure when, but soon.

We also had a problem with sizing. I recently ordered the wife some undies - unfortunately they went out of stock - so lovehoney kindly sent these instead - http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=5544 The size is described as "one size fits all -Fits UK size 10-14". I'm reliably informed my the OH that these would fit an 8-10 maybe.

Doh! Shame really as they were very nice.

I think I need to get to size 14 lol my sizing is bad as it is, as my waist is just too slim for the size of cloths my hips are - need to get my hips down, I know I am not someone with perfect figure, still this is a bit putting off, as I think the waist will just be too loose and if I loose my waist I would look even more overweight than I am

I can see your problem sweetie and completely ridiculous waist sizes don't help.

How about something along the lines of these:

Most materials will have a bit of give in them, I would go for a couple of inches less on the hips and a couple more on the waist. Or go for lingerie that is loose and floaty.

You have a lovely figure by the sounds of it, a real hour glass one. Its a shame lingerie is so hard to find.

Let us know how you get on.

MM: thanks for the tips. I am just finding it strange there is such a huge gap in waist size where the lingerie changes from normal to plus size. I know I have to loose some weight and working on it, still 6 inches on waist difference while hips go up by normal 2 is just ridiculous. But I guess they think because I have large bum I am wide round my waist and stomach as well, but thats not my case. I still somehow managed to keep the hour glass figure, dont ask me how But the fact is in lower sizes I would have less problems with fitting it in, as they would figure me much better.

I guess I may try something and then use LH return policy if it just does not fit, I would hate doing it, but with my size it may come to that.

I know what you mean, it is pathetic. A lot of manufacturers have no idea at all of different shapes a woman can be.

I wouldn't worry about trying on lingerie and then sending it back if its not right. Good fitting lingerie can make you look and feel like a million dollars, where as bad fitting lingerie can make you feel unattractive and fat.

No two women are the same, what may look great for someone else, may not look great on you.

Good luck with finding some.

Also, if you can say you are happy with your body shape, then you don't need to loose weight as long as you are basically healthy. Fitting into lingerie is not a good reason to loose weight, you should do it because you want to. You will find lingerie that fits.

I can always stick to knickers, bra and stockings as well. I am just not sure 40 inches would be enough for my wider hips and bigger bottom. I dont find the materials to give way immediately, but takes time (one my trousers can go soo bad it falls down even my hips, which is annoying, used to things falling down from my waist to hips, but not over my hips).

I want to look slimmer in general, not only because of lingerie. I want to go to size 12-14, in time, really.

I have the same issue - I'm an 8 on top with a smallish waist and very small boobs so anything that is going to cover my top half really *needs* to be an 8. However I have huge hips and a big bum, even fitting in to size 12 items on occasion but usually somewhere between an 8 and a 10 (annoying how so many places have different ideas of what an 8 is to other shops).

My general rule of thumb is - dresses tend to need to be a stretchy material and *have* to have zips (I also have really broad shoulders so dresses without zips don't go on over the top or over my hips). I can wear more restrictive dresses but I have to accept that walking becomes a "toddle" as my bum is restricted. But I *have* to wear dresses in an 8 due to the small boobs.

Anything floaty on the hips - I'd go for the smaller size too. But anything for the lower half I *tend* to go for bigger than ideal if I need to unless it's really stretchy material.

Otherwise for separates it's best to try and get each part in different sizes - things that come in sets all together may not fit great but if you can buy each half separately so get two different sizes it works!

And the number of issues I have with brands doing a 6-8 and a 10-12 (where on earth is the 8-10?! They have gaps in other sizes too I've noticed)

All I can suggest is try loads on and get a feel for whether you should risk the smaller or larger size in certain styles and types of material etc. Lh is good to get an idea on this as you can always use the excellent returns policy (although I guess depending on which country you're in at the mo that might not be so easy).

Yeah, I know. I think my hips are something between 42-43 actually. So I have some 38-2.5-42/43 measurements, so I am not sure the 40 inches for hips are going to be enough. I know from experince with trousers I cannot fit my bum into smaller size, so I will always have to screw my waist and look fatter, as usual (I have a gorgeous coat, but it is loose by about 6 inches round waist, so I just look wider, but I cannot do anything about it), and go for not so nice fit. I generally gave up on clothing, as I cannot find anything to make my figure look flattering in the sizing I am in (one reason I want to get down sizes). My waist looks wider just by the fact I have to use belt on trousers and it scrolls all the exceeding cloth to the front, creating sort of a "belly". And with lingerie I will have to go for bra and knickers I guess, as those I can potentially buy separately.

I am currently in CZ, till about the 20th, so no order until then. And I am generally moving a lot between the 2 countries, but going to be in UK until September at least. So I have time till then and then I may be coming for research at times and staying with a friend.

Can you try to avoid having things that go from waist to hip?

Low rise trousers that stop on the hips (bypassing the bagginess on the waist) or tops and coats that are shorter lengthed?

I do have the same problem - because I have broad shoulders and wide hips and my waist isn't naturally very defined so wearing the "wrong" thing just makes me look all up and down which is frustrating.

Adx

I dont find trousers stopping on my hips flattering either, to be honest. I think in my size its one of the big no. Coats may be fine in UK, but in CZ we do have very cold winters (up to -20 Celsius often, -10 is very common) and lot os snow normally, so I need to be covered as best as I can here. Including trousers to my waist. Generally I should cover myself up as much as I can at my size in public I think, in something what will make me look slimmer.

I feel for you, has to be also hard to find something suitable. Especially if you are between sizes which rarely go together. I do have a bit broader shouders myself. I do dare to say I am a bit hour glass figure.

I've seen women a lot bigger than you not covering up!

I think wearing things that are low rise is acceptable but it's finding the perfect cut and material which can be difficult.

Maybe you could alter your clothing slightly? Tailor the waist in a little - I had a friend whos mum put stitching into the back of her lab coat for her to bring it in at the waist and it worked pretty well!

Edit to say it's a shame you struggle to show off your hour glass figure due to clothes sizes being so bloody awkward! You'd feel more confident and slimmer with no change in your shape if finding clothes that fit and flatter were easier!

I would not, as in this country I would still be judged as discustingly fat, no matter whats the shape. It is the size which matters. Anyone above size 10-12 is judged that way. Size 8-10 is much prefered. One reason I gave up on eg swimming suits, I wear skirts to my ankles, black ones only, I mainly wear dark colours to slim myself up a bit.

I never tried to tailor my own cloths, as yet. I may give it a go, but it does require some skills and I never was into needle work, so I only know how to replace a lost button or how to take care of a hole in cloths (I do that for working cloths where I dont care for appearance, just need it functional).

That's such a shame! I mean many sizes can be perfectly healthy depending on your stature and build. I had a friend who was a size 14 but was tall and carried it so well, I'd have put her as a 12 easily but no she's a 14.

Carrying fat around the middle is the unhealthy form as it layers around the vital organs but if you've a slim waist then you could be perfectly healthy and judged for no reason. A 14/16 isn't particularly large and it's such a shame that you're made to feel like that by your society!

I know in the UK there are always cheap seamstresses about who can take something in for you quite cheaply but not sure if that's something you can get easily or is popular at all in CZ. But maybe give it a go here and see what you think - if it works for you then you can either try and learn, or you can bring the items you want altering over here with you or find someone similar there?

Well. I am about 5´ 7´´ tall, so I am not completely small. Still I think I should loose a lot of weight to look better. And I do get comments considering I did not give birth as yet I should be very slim, like size 10 at max. And you better not know what a lot of people here think of English. I dont share it, but still can hear it round me. I guess these are the reasons I really hate my body at times, and avoid mirrors a lot. And seeing the sizes at lingerie here did not help much either.

It is not really popular here, you either do it yourself, or it is really usually expensive. Generally cloths here are very expensive so I tend to get mine in UK when I can (although eg winter jacket is much better to buy here, as it is more suitable for really really low temperatures).

It makes me really sad to see your lack of confidence. I do know how you feel (I was physically sick the first time my OH touched my breasts due to my hatred of them), but I will say this - with work and support (something that aside from your partner (and I'm sure some of your friends) seems to be lacking in your life right now which also makes me really sad!) confidence can be built and I absolutely think it's worth gaining that because otherwise you may make dramatic changes to your body that you regret later *or* you will continually want to change things even when you reach your "goal".

It's worth learning to be confident - I now love my boobs, an incredible turn around from where I was before - but it's a lot easier said than done!!

Right now I am even wondering about my OH, we used to talk daily when not seeing each other, using FB chat. Recently there is far less communication and we did not talk since Tuesday, while his name was flickering on and off on FB yesterday. And my mail to him, as I was scared of wisdom tooth removal went unanswered. I do really worry right now about that as well. But I guess I wold survive, as I always do, somehow. I dont have many friends. Never did since the harassment when I was growing up because of my looks. I tend to keep problems for my friends as well, I rarely tell them. I think most would say I am strong and perfectly happy. I dont want people to know I have a weakness so they cannot hurt me again.

And I know what you mean. I have markings on my skin, lot of them and I was sick when my partner first saw my body naked. Could not open my eyes for some time. Was scared to see the experesion on his face

Ok, bit thinking about one of these

this one has size 14-16

in this one I would go for 16

*huugss*.

Of the two sets you've mentioned I think they both look good - the BlueBella is nice and loose in the hip area but can be tightened on the waist so that looks like just what you're looking for!

And the Anais (def. recommend going for the larger as their sizes are on the small side) is a nice stretchy material so although it's quite tight fitting it should fit well and hopefully be well fitting on the waist too :)

Let us know how you get on :)

Erh. I ordered http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=21382

and http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=21390

And I find it bit ridiculous. The first one seems to fit about fine, could be a bit bigger, but it does fit with sizing. The other just dont! Even though the box states that XXL I ordered should fit hips 110-117cm (46 inches)and waist some 101-104 cm (up to 41 inches). Not to mention my larger cup C breats just dont fit in either and there is no support what so ever. Also I find it very short lenghtwise, very disappointed with this one. I think I will return it and ask for refund and keep the first one. I will write review though with details.
