UK size 4 to 6

I have a big problem finding clothes and lingerie that are small enough. I hover between a UK size 4 and 6. I've found a few specialist websites but most of the items are too frumpy. Any suggestions, anyone?

Gain some weight? no but really is that a healthy size?

Thats a bit harsh, some people are naturally slim, I know a girl that size that eats more than I do its just the way that she is, plus she might only be small and then it would be normal

anyway, Im not sure where you would get lingerie from that is that small, most places just don't do it, maybe you could buy something and alter it to fit

I was not being harsh or trying to offend anyone just wondering.

For my height, 5'1" and body type it is a perfectly healthy size. I trained as a personal trainer and am a bit of a geek when it comes to nutrition so I know I'm a good weight, too.

Yamamay are good for small sizes but they only have one UK store and don't sell online. So, I think the suggestion of alterations may be my best bet, thank you. I do get a bit miffed though when I spend £100 and still have to pay to have something altered!

I struggle too sometimes, not that i'm that tiny in dress size but I am short and finding petite stuff is a nightmare. I do know corsets uk do have a bespoke option and their corsets do go down to tiny sizes, hope this helps. Have you tried what katie did too, some lovely lingerie on there there's also dainty lady which has a bit ;O)

I sometimes find it difficult to get pj's that fit my legs as cotton ones tend to shrink and they dont fit properly its one of the reason i buy satin pj's. i wish you look with your quest RebbecaT.

It came across as harsh. Ask yourself this - if someone said they were a size 16 (a size that on certain frames can be considered overweight even if it isn't on all people just as the same can be said of a size 6 being underweight) would you question their weight?

I don't really understand how you came to the question "is that a healthy weight?" when the OP hadn't mentioned their weight?

I'm not trying to have a go at all - but I feel it important to challenge people on things like this because we're supposed to be an open and welcoming forum and I think posts like that can actually do a lot more harm than you'd realise - by my mentioning of it, I hope that you might be able to consider the potential damage if it ever comes up again :) some women are very sensitive of their weight and can do little to change it and since many people think all slender women choose to be that way so they do tend to get slated in the media, by strangers, by their friends. It can leave many (of which I know of at least two on this forum not counting myself) women, very, very insecure and feeling like they have to justify to everyone they know how much they eat etc.

Sorry if this is a bit ranty, I don't mean to come across negatively, just hope I can shed a little light and encourage people to think from a different perspective

Its was as I mentioned not intended too up set anyone and I understand perfectly well some people have weight issue's but I was enquiring as to weather the weight due to the afore mentioned size does not sound healthy too me personnaly going purely on what I know it just doesnt sound healthy.

As for questoning somone who said they were size 16 well I don't know enough to make a decission on that one as I only really know as far as women and men too come to think of it size 4-6 sounds from an uneducated point of view dangerously slim!

However now I know that it can be a healthy weight.

Have to disagree that some can do little to change their weight though unless you are refering to medical reasons?

I can only say again I intended to upset no one.

Some people just cannot gain weight. For the fact of their own build and what is natural for them - I was this way for many years. Tried everything from eating utter crap (something I now regret - I'd rather be "underweight" than have cholesterol filled arteries) to eating high calorie but healthy foods. For some reason - my metabolism, whatever, I couldn't gain weight no matter how hard I tried.

Whilst perhaps this is rare (as is an inability to lose weight) I think it is *more* common in the teenage years which is when we are often at our most insecure and our friends are most likely to pick on us uneccessarily so you can understand why people can be crushingly insecure. I know you didn't intend to offend - and I notice you used the words "uneducated point of view" so I hope you can see that the purpose of my post wasn't to tell you off, but to help you understand a little better :)

Oops knew I forgot something another thing I meant too say is that I understand your not being bitchy or watever and just pointing out some facts.

I wish I had your metabolism, okay best to let this thread get on with what it was meant for.

As for the original question - I have no idea - I always wore things the wrong size when I was very small as I was very insecure but I do hope you find what you're looking for!

Recently I've gone down to a size 6-8 and have been finding clothing tricky. I purchased a size 8 skirt from a shop and had to get it altered, it even came with a belt and had to add extra holes as it was too big round my waist. I'm not a thin as you, I'm also taller 5'10", but I am interested to know the best places to find sizes that are 6-8 in the UK and a good price. So far I haven't had much luck and most things are designer clothing, or oddly maternity clothing, which I find strange.

So if there's any sites anyone knows/ uses that'll be great.

I was talking to someone who is small waist and hieght and she says that she orders most her clothes off ebay from china. Might be worth looking into.

I thought places like Jane Norman and Topshop did excellent clothing for sizes 4 - 6...? Apologies if I'm wrong, but my cousin is around that size and she lives in Jane Norman clothing.

I think it may be worth learning to make cloths yourself, if you really struggle. I have a friend who does that. And another goes to shop for kids and teenagers to get smaller sizes.

Yeah, I've found some really cool kids clothes that I know my girlfriend would love, and fit into, but I don't really fancy buying a tshirt that says 'you rock my world' with a 'age 14yrs' label???

a friend of mine always claimed that Topshop size 6 came up the smallest - they weren't frumpy last time I checked - not sure if they do a petite range though (at 5'9 - i've never really looked)

A while back there was a New Scientist article dealing with this - that some people on identical diets responded differently as to whether they put on weight or not.

Interestingly, it now seems that while a "healthier" diet and exercise will benefit both overweight and "normal" BMI people; when the lifestyle is less healthy, the can't-put-on-weight types who don't show it actually suffer worse from health problems than those who do show the weight gain typically associated with some illnesses. The conclusion was that the ability to "shunt" cholesterol out of the bloodstream to store (as fat) seemed to have a protective effect against the same illnesses that "fat" people are normally deemed to be at higher risk from. (i.e. if they were thinner, on the same regime, they'd be worse off still...)

Anyway, back on topic....

How rude. I used to be a size 6-8 and would always have people commenting on my size, in a way they would never to do larger people. For some reason it seems to be perfectly acceptable to comment on or question somebody's size if they're small in a way that it never would if they're big.

I have been over this with Alicia as you can see above and again will say I intended no offense to anyone.
