What lube do I use?

Hi everyone!

I've recently bought the Penis Butt Plug http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=8583 and as much as I want to use it, I have never had a PVC toy before so I don't want to go and use the wrong type of lube and damage it or me.

Can anyone recommend a lubricant to use with this? As at the moment all I have is the ID Juicy Lube flavoured lube which is water-based and I really have no idea about these sorts of things =(

Hello :)

Normally I would suggest this link but unfortunately I couldn't find anything about PVC toys. http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/sex-toys/buyers-guide/sex-toy-materials-phthalates-rubber-silicone/

But I did find this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dildo (check "Materials" & "PVC"). According to this, PVC contains http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phthalates so it's better if you used a condom with that toy for you own safety.

I suppose it would be ok to use a good quality waterbased lube, as I'm not sure what would happen if you used a silicone one.

Sorry, by "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phthalates" I just meant phthalates but you could check that link as well.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I see no problem with using a water based lube, it is usually only silicone or 'jelly' toys that react with silicone lube. Some lubes are however better than others for anal as it is naturally lubricated. I'd suggest taking it slow and easy to see how things go.

You may also want to use a condom on your toy, that might make things a bit better at sliding in but be careful that the condom does not contain anything inside it such as a desensitising cream.

Good luck and happy laying!

I thought jelly toys were compatible with silicone

Perhaps it is. I couldn't find anything on the blog.

I wasn't sure because its a generic term, not one specific material, so I'd rather not risk it... Or be responsible for wrecking someone's toys!

Good post on the link!

Agree, it's not specific at all. I wish we all had a detailed list of materials & compatible lubes.

I don't think anything reacts with water based lubes! Don't think they could take vaginal lubrication otherwise... Best to stick to a water base of in doubt in my opinion.

That's what I suggested

(suggested to slash_fan I mean). But I guess it's nice to have more options if when fails.

if water fails. We need an "edit" button here!

We're not allowed one in case we're naughty....External Media

Naughty? No. Sleepy? yup (which explains all the mistakes above!)

Thank you! =) I've just read about 6 pages on Phthalates =S slightly worrying but I won't be put off entirely and I will definitely be using a condom when I use this plug =) My current lube is condom safe as well so that resolves that question too =D Thanks again!

If in doubt, use a water based lube. Nothing can go wrong :)

You're welcome, I hope you enjoy your toy!

I currently use some water based lube for sex. Are anal lubes all that good? Are they actually necessary?

Think it depends. They're a bit thicker to compensate for the lack of natual lubiness, but a decent amount of a long-lasting one should have the same result. Have to say, I never used to find a need for it at all (I'm a bit backward, never bothered with the toys/fingers/warm-up thing and just went straight for the penis up the bum, no lube or nuffink, and that did me fine for many years, although since trying it with lube, it is a bit better), and if you have a 'plain' lube it can do for both no bother. I like having the separate one now, but if I ran out, I'd be fine using any of the no-frills lubes scattered about.

Durex 2 in 1 massage lube.

Durex Tingle - new and improved version (i.e. the one without the menthol).

Oooo... They removed it? What is the other ingredient now then?
